About Us
The rodeo was established in 1954 by returned soldiers from the local RSL and initially was conducted on a local football oval. Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo is the second longest running rodeo in Victoria and was one of the oldest rodeos in Australia. Now conducted by the Lions Club of Myrtleford and its ‘band of helpers’ on Boxing Day each year it is a ‘must do’ for many tourists holidaying in northeast Victoria – attracting approximately 3 to 4,000 spectators each year.
For the local Lions Club and other sporting clubs who support the rodeo it is their major fund raiser and is run entirely by volunteers – community minded people who are prepared to give up their Boxing Day since 1954. It is important to note that all profits from the event are put back into the local community and Lions International programs.
The rodeo enjoys the support and commitment from Myrtleford’s local business community, who are prepared, year in and year out to sponsor the Rodeo. Its success would not have been possible without this ongoing support we ask you in turn to support them with your business.
